I’ve done a lot of political advertising. I worked briefly for Joe Biden the first time he ran for President. I was there for Mike Dukakis. And then I worked for Ross Perot. That pretty much cured me of any further desire to do political ads. (Yes. The man was crazy. He also carried a gun.) Eventually (after three or four more election cycles) I got lured back into it. It never really changes, though. No matter who it is, political advertising is hard. There’s never enough time. There are a million chefs–most of whom are terrible cooks. Everybody thinks they know. Nobody ever does. Basically, I just try to be honest. To do any kind of advertising–but especially political advertising–I believe you have to talk to the goodness in people. Don’t scare the voters. Don’t make crazy promises.
Just tell the truth
